Big Texas oil companies are spending millions to push a deceptive ballot proposition to kill California’s clean energy and air pollution control standards. Consumer Protection:
PUC Acts to Protect Consumers Facing Shut-Off of Gas & Electricity
On July 29, acting on an issue raised last year by Greenlining and other consumer advocates, the CPUC approved critical new protections for utility customers facing shut-off of their service for non-payment. These measures are vital to Californians struggling to pay essential bills during a period of record high employment.

See “Who’s Getting the Contracts?” in the 2010 Supplier Diversity Report Card
The CPUC’s leadership has transformed the way the state’s largest utility and telecom companies contract with businesses owned by women, people of color, and disabled veterans. Utility and telecom companies under the purview of the CPUC are making positive strides in their commitment to supplier diversity.

Utilities Must Address Supplier Diversity in Launching Smart Grid
In June the CPUC unanimously approved a decision requiring the large investor-owned utilities to develop Smart Grid Deployment Plans. Due to Greenlining’s advocacy work these Deployment Plans must include strategies for reaching supplier diversity goals. Click here to learn more

Greenlining Sponsors Forum on Economic Insecurity for Seniors of Color
It is increasingly difficult for seniors of color, particularly in California, to live with dignity and economic well-being. This growing crisis was the focus of a recent event in Pasadena sponsored by Greenlining. The event focused on a policy and advocacy agenda to ensuring that all older Americans have the opportunity for security and dignity as they age. Click here to read recent article in Asian Journal
The New Face of Financial Regulation:
HMDA and CRA Reform
The Federal Reserve Board of Governors sponsored hearings across the country to discuss potential revisions to the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) and the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA). Greenlining testified on panels at each hearing and emphasized a commitment to diversity.

Reclaiming Our Democracy:
Deadline Extended for Redistricting Project
Greenlining has extended the application deadline for its California Community Redistricting Leaders program. Greenlining is recruiting dynamic grassroots leaders from around California to spearhead a new push to ensure that redistricting fairly represents all communities.

Bridges To Health:
Unpacking Asian American Diversity
“Closing Data Gaps,” provides a much needed analysis of the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander medical student population at the UC medical schools. Such analysis and disaggregated data are critical for policy makers and educators to address access and achievement issues among the underserved.

In a great crisis, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said: “History will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period of social transition was not the strident clamor of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people.” In our era’s own moment of unprecedented crisis Greenlining is committed to not being silent and in that spirit we present with our most recent annual report.
