“The Future of the American Dream”
Friday May 13th, 2011

Greenlining’s annual Economic Summit provides a rare opportunity for business and government leaders to connect with leaders from low-to-moderate income and minority communities to create viable solutions for the issues that affect us all. With over 1,000 participants, the Summit is the only event of its kind — a conference that represents a truly “rainbow,” cross-sector coalition.  Our Summit creates this powerful exchange of perspectives, where relationships are developed, ideas are fomented, and “win/win” solutions are a common result. Friday, February 18th, 2011

Dear Friends,

Yesterday, President Obama made a visit to California’s Silicon Valley on what he described as a “jobs tour.” From what we understand, the President met with a small, elite group of executives including Apple CEO Steve Jobs, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Oracle CEO Larry Ellison, Google CEO Eric Schmidt and Twitter CEO Dick Costolo.

Wednesday, February 9th, 2011

Dear Friends of Greenlining,

With last year’s passage of the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, our communities have extraordinary new protections from predatory financial products and services.

Led by Professor Elizabeth Warren, the new Consumer Finance Protection Bureau (CFPB) is charged with providing these protections.  Just last week, the CFPB launched its new website: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/

The website is intended as an interactive forum that allows consumers to easily seek out information about financial products, as well as to submit complaints.

Reclaim the Dream, Stop Foreclosures

Friday, January 7th, 2011

Dear Supporter,

As you all know, economic justice was a crucial part of Dr. King’s vision for civil rights and today’s foreclosure crisis is imperiling that vision for millions of Americans. In honor of Martin Luther King Day, Greenlining will hold a press conference and protest at 11:30am on Thursday, January 13th on the steps of the Alameda County Superior Court building in Oakland to share Dr. King’s message. Please join Greenlining as we Reclaim the Dream of Dr. King and demand a solution to the foreclosure crisis.

Please join us and help amplify Greenlining’s message to the Obama administration and the financial industry to put our communities first and take concrete steps to stop foreclosures in California. As economic justice was crucial to Dr. King’s vision, our message is: “don’t bar our communities from achieving the dream of Dr. King.”

YES on 15 (Public Financing of Elections):

This initiative creates a “test run” public financing system for Secretary of State candidates. “Communities of color are always at a disadvantage when big money dominates politics,” said Greenlining Institute executive director Orson Aguilar. “Public financing would reduce the dominance of lobbyists and special interests and increase the power of ordinary citizens.” Click here to print Greenlining Voter Guide

On May 4th, Greenlining wrote a letter to PG&E President and CEO Peter Darbee opposing Proposition 16.  Prop 16, cleverly called the “Taxpayer’s Right to Vote Act” by PG&Ethe ballot proposition’s sponsor and sole funder – is up for election on June 8th.  To read our letter to PG&E click here

What Would Prop 16 Do?

Prop 16 would rewrite California’s constitution to create a new two-thirds super-majority requirement before local governments could expand or create a public power agency, or establish a Community Choice Energy program.
