Testify at Public Hearing in Oakland on PG&E’s $4 Billion Rate Hike

The Greenlining Institute asks that you join us in Oakland on Monday, June 7th to testify on behalf of small businesses, families, and communities at an official CPUC Public Hearing to ask the question: Why is PG&E raising its rates by 30% during an economic crisis, while spending $44 million of ratepayer dollars to pass Proposition 16?

What: Public Hearing on PG&E’s unnecessary $4 Billion (30%) Rate Hikes

Where: Elihu Harris State Building in Downtown Oakland (1st Floor Auditorium)

When: Monday, June 7th, at 2 pm and 7 pm

Why: To protest unnecessary rate hikes and Proposition 16

YES on 15 (Public Financing of Elections):

This initiative creates a “test run” public financing system for Secretary of State candidates. “Communities of color are always at a disadvantage when big money dominates politics,” said Greenlining Institute executive director Orson Aguilar. “Public financing would reduce the dominance of lobbyists and special interests and increase the power of ordinary citizens.” Click here to print Greenlining Voter Guide

Protect Our Right To Choose Clean Energy: Vote NO on Prop 16
On May 4th, Greenlining wrote a letter to PG&E President and CEO Peter Darbee opposing Proposition 16.  Prop 16, cleverly called the “Taxpayer’s Right to Vote Act” by PG&Ethe ballot proposition’s sponsor and sole funder – is up for election on June 8th.  To read our letter to PG&E click here

What Would Prop 16 Do?

Prop 16 would rewrite California’s constitution to create a new two-thirds super-majority requirement before local governments could expand or create a public power agency, or establish a Community Choice Energy program.

AB1405, the Community Benefit Fund, co-sponsored by The Greenlining Institute, Coalition for Clean Air, NAACP and Race Poverty and The Environment needs your support!  This legislation acts to ensure that dollars coming through proposed carbon mechanisms (billions a year potentially) have specific set aside for disadvantaged communities.
