University Accountability

California’s public university has long been a model for the nation. In 1960, the “Master Plan for Higher Education” established the tripartite system (UC, CSU and CCC) and envisioned a tuition-free university. Each segment of California’s public university has a governing board with limited student representation to provide oversight for the operations of each institution (UC Regents, CSU Trustees and CCC Governors). Almost annually, public attention is brought to a lack of transparency and accountability on at least one of these boards.

Since these governing bodies have ultimate influence over issues like tuition rates, executive compensation, financial aid, and efforts to diversify the campuses, we are committed to increasing their accountability to the students, staff and faculty of each campus, as well as the taxpaying public.
