Campus Diversity

California is a majority-minority state.  By 2020, Latinos and African Americans are projected to comprise 48.2% of the state population.  But while the state becomes more diverse, in 2006 African Americans and Latinos represented only 3% and 15% of the University of California undergraduate student body, respectively.  While the California State University and California Community Colleges are more diverse, they too are seeing declining access for students of color.

Private institutions, in addition to frequently being more affordable due to the availability of financial aid, are also becoming much more diverse than California’s public campuses.  We conduct student-led research and advocacy on diversity issues within the UC, CSU and CCC systems.
