California is a majority-minority state. By 2020, Latinos and African Americans are projected to comprise 48.2% of the state population. But while the state becomes more diverse, in 2006 African Americans and Latinos represented only 3% and 15% of the University of California undergraduate student body, respectively. While the California State University and California Community Colleges are more diverse, they too are seeing declining access for students of color. |

Private institutions, in addition to frequently being more affordable due to the availability of financial aid, are also becoming much more diverse than California’s public campuses. We conduct student-led research and advocacy on diversity issues within the UC, CSU and CCC systems. |
