Leadership Academy: Redistricting Fellowship

California Community Redistricting Leaders Program: Overview

Application cycle now closed for 2011 program.

The leadership fellowship was specifically created to:

  1. Bring forth dynamic grassroots leaders that are able to organize regional communities around redistricting; and
  2. Empower these community leaders to tackle other important issues facing their communities through trainings and exposure to Greenlining’s advocacy “toolbox.”

Each Leadership Fellow will work with Greenlining’s Director of Innovation as well as the Claiming Our Democracy Fellow to organize local communities of color throughout California to play an active role in the drawing of district maps by the Citizens Redistricting Commission.

Leaders will work in their communities to

  1. Promote a unified and multi-ethnic approach to redistricting;
  2. Provide technical assistance to local community members to draw their own maps;
  3. Outreach to local media outlets to provide bring increased media attention to redistricting;
  4. Help prepare community members to testify at meetings held by the Citizens Redistricting  Commission before maps are drawn; and
  5. Help provide public comment on maps drawn the by redistricting commission

Meet the 2011 Class of Community Redistricting Leaders

Nine community leaders in six regions were selected to participate in Greenlining's leadership fellowship for 2011.  See who they are.

Program Dates

The Leadership program will require a commitment from September 15, 2010 to September 30, 2011 for approximately 2 to 10 hours per month.

Application & Deadline

Applications for the Redistricting Leaders program must be postmarked by September 10, 2010.
