IPO High School Summer Camp : Overview

The Investing Pays-Off (IPO) High School Summer Camp was established in the summer of 2005 as a product of The Greenlining Institute– Merrill Lynch California Partnership for Economic Achievement. The camp is designed to engage young leaders in grades 9 through 11 from across the state of California on critical issues affecting low-income and minority communities. |
Program

Participants in the IPO Summer Camp will attend one of two 10-day sessions where they will learn directly from leaders in the nonprofit, public and private sectors on how to work collaboratively in addressing issues such as Affordable Housing, Healthcare Diversity and Environmental Justice. Students will be housed at Casa, the Greenlining Institute's multi-ethnic residential student cooperative near UC Berkeley to have an opportunity of experience real university life. Participants in the IPO Summer Camp will gain invaluable skills in problem solving, critical thinking and team work, while developing and nurturing their commitment to civic responsibility and social entrepreneurship. Goals
Through the IPO High School Summer Camp we hope students will:
Connect the sense of personal responsibility learned in the program with a fuller appreciation for civic and community responsibility
- Learn how to be affective advocates for change
- Build camaraderie with youth of different backgrounds and ethnicities
- Develop greater understanding of various career fields
- Learn how different sectors interact and work
- Become engaged in ideas and solutions to important societal issues through site visits
- Learn how companies do well by being responsible corporate citizens
- Explore the merits of a public private partnership
- Learn about your issue area in California
- Learn how to start a non profit organization
Application & Deadline
To apply to the IPO Program you must submit the following:
• Complete application form
• Personal statement
• Resume
• (2) Letters of recommendation
• High School transcripts
We gladly work with students in helping them to understand what's involved in the application process.
